U.S. Navy Fireman First Class George Price

Date of Loss – December 7th, 1941

Date of Repatriation – May 4th, 2022

On August 3, 2021, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Fireman First Class George F. Price, missing from World War II.

Fireman First Class Price entered the U.S. Navy from Illinois. On December 7, 1941, he was aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) when the ship came under surprise attack from Japanese forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Oklahoma capsized in the attack, and F1c Price was among those killed in the incident. His remains were eventually recovered from the ship; however, they could not be identified at the time and were buried as unknown remains at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (NMCP) in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2015, the DPAA received authorization to exhume and reexamine unknown remains associated with the Oklahoma. F1c Price’s remains were disinterred and accessioned into the DPAA laboratory as part of this effort. Laboratory analysis and circumstantial evidence lead to the identification of F1c Price’s remains.

Fireman First Class Price is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
